Number 4

Well it was nearly a finish for no 4 -- a Linus quilt I'm finishing up for a friend but I've had to re-attatch the border it was rather wavey and would only have machine quilted if I had put a pleat in it!!! not my style at all. Now it's nice and flat and quilted with some parallel lines to give a nice strong finish and with a machine sewn binding it should withstand so dragging around by a small boy. I'll not get to finish it tomorrow as I'm off to the Harrogate quilt show -- will I buy anything well maybe some threads and I'm looking for some fun fabric to make some easy cushions, so we shall see!! and of course there will be lots of lovely quilts to drool over.

Finish no.3

This linus quilt has be made from orphan block from the box we collect at my quilt group. These blocks have been languishing in the box for some time as they did not seem to fit with any of the others there in fact the only thing they had in common was a creamish background I remade the pink and reddish star block to give it a better balance then used a couple or so metres of the green print that I had had for some time as it never quite went with any other projects so a double bonus, fabric used and unloved blocks put to a good use!!

Another finish !!

Another finish -- on a roll at last. This is my entry for the Linus challenge at my quilt group. The challenge is to make a Linus quilt about 40 to 50 inches square or about 45 x 50 inches but it can be smaller or a little larger so very flexible on size and also the preferred backing should be fleece, and at least one piece of fabric used must come from the box of fabric donated to the group for charity quilts,--- so here is mine using the strip sets from my scrappy trip around the world to make the 16 patches and the stone coloured plain is from the box (no one wanted it and I'm always a sucker for unloved fabrics)

and this is a close up of the quilting -- very plain and in close up a bit wonky!!

I used a bright variegated thread to add some life to the plain and I think it has made a cheerful quilt for a young child in need of a quilty hup.

A few photos

Having put the above title I hope every thing works!!

This is the quilt I'm refurbishing as you can see I've just scribbled in the border to give additional strength to the quilt and the binding is the fabric I cut the butterflies from ( these were appliqued over the holes in the top ) The centres of the chains will have a free motion flower motive to complete the quilt.

This is the binding on the friendship star baby quilt --- it was pieced by a friend (the centre) and finished by me I think it's for a craft fair at her church. I machine finished the binding with a fancy stitch which gives a strong edge for children's quilt, and has become my favourite go to method for children and baby quilts.
Hoping for another finish -- for Linus in the next couple of days so watch this space!!

Back to normal (of sorts )

Well back to normal of sorts back still sore if I do to much so although I've made progress it has not been as much as I wanted all very frustrating.

At least this is now a finish with a green binding the photos are not uploading properly so at the moment I can't show the finished article, the quilting is straight line on the diagonal the back is not upto much more
the refurbish quilt has been stabalized but anymore will have to wait a little bit longer. I also managed to get a top finished using blocks from the group UFO box but again quilting will have to wait.

Back to normal

Thought I was back to normal having spent the last couple of days doing some pretty mindless scribble quilting to give some definition and strength to a quilt I'm refurbishing for a friend ( it would have been easier to remake it !!!) and then today got out of bed and my back has decided to spasm again !!! not good for quilting at all can hardly move around the house, out have come the rubs and pain killers and the hot water bottle . I hope things are better tomorrow as I have a free day and was hoping to get the binding on then I could spend a couple of evenings hand sewing it down----wish me luck.

Life

No sewing for the next couple of days as life will be just a tad too busy.
Friday is MIL's funeral so all our family will be here -- she was 94 and had been in residential care for almost 2 years and the last week or so she had not been with us that much. She had 4 children 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren so a good life.
Will be back when everything is back to normal.

Patchwork greyhounds

Or should the title read patchwork greyhounds and lurchers, as the sewing is a little slow at the moment thought you might like some pictures of the hounds mugging my DH for treats

this also includes our EBT who usually gets pushed out of the way by the girls.

This is Homer a beautiful white ( with some small black spots) lurcher boy

Homer with our blue greyhound Polly and fawn greyhound Poppy Jess our other lucher had run inside with her treat before I could get a picture.
Next post should be patchwork but it will depend on any progress!!!
